The CGS has established numerous scientific cooperation relationships. These have involved several international institutions.
ALGERIAN-FRENCH COOPERATION
COOPERATION with the French IRD (Institute for Development and Research)
On July 13, 2004, three agreements, defining the framework for IRD-LGIT-CGS collaboration, were signed by Mr. Belazougui, Director of the CGS, and J.-F. Girard, President of the French IRD (Institute for Development and Research), in the presence of the Algerian and French Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
Since the signing of this agreement, a series of joint actions have been carried out by the two institutions, particularly in areas such as:
Training
Installation of seismological stations at several sites
Recording background noise and studying its evolution at various sites
Presentations at several conferences
Development of attenuation laws
Study of the influence of seismic source parameters, propagation path, and site on the response of structures
Exchange of visits to France and Algeria
Characterization of the seismic source based on the inversion of seismological and accelerometric data recorded during different earthquakes
Development of spectral attenuation laws taking into account major earthquakes for Algeria
Processing and interpretation of seismic background noise network data acquired in Algeria to highlight site effects and determine velocity models in certain regions of Algeria. Signal processing and the contribution of building structure reinforcement.
Installation of the SEISCOMP3 program dedicated to the acquisition of real-time seismological data using the internet with the SEEDLINK data transmission protocol.
Participation in internships
Cooperation with the National School of Architecture of Paris-Belleville
Preparation for a Specialization and Advanced Studies Diploma in Architecture (DSA)
Cooperation with ISTerre Grenoble
Scientific exchanges between the CGS and ISTerre Grenoble
Processing and interpretation of seismic background noise data acquired in Algeria.
ALGERIAN-JAPANESE COOPERATION
Cooperation between the CGS (General Seismological Center) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) began in February 2005 with: a seismic microzonation (risk) study of the Algiers province, followed by: Japanese assistance in the operation and maintenance of newly installed testing equipment in Sebala (vibrating table, test slab, reaction wall). The deployment of Japanese experts for this purpose. Development of an experimental testing program aimed at evaluating the seismic performance of existing reinforced concrete buildings before and after reinforcement. Three (3) half-scale specimens representing the frame of an existing building constructed before 2003 in Algiers have been designed and are currently being built for testing using the reaction wall and test slab. Visits by several official and scientific figures to the CGS Seismic Engineering Laboratory in Sebala.
