Message from the CGS Director Dr Hakim BECHTOULA
It is a great pleasure to present to you the newly redesigned CGS website.
We intended this site to be a dedicated resource not only for researchers, academics, and professionals in engineering and construction but also a public tool for information and awareness. It is designed for everyone concerned with or interested in earthquake-related issues and seismic protection.
By exploring the "About CGS" section, you will discover the vision behind the center’s creation—aiming to reduce seismic risk in Algeria—as well as its organization and core missions. You will also see that CGS activities are as rich as they are diverse. The "Divisions" section highlights our work in fields such as seismic hazard, seismic microzoning, and earthquake engineering. You will find that CGS is not only a producer of technical regulations (including paraseismic codes) and theoretical research but also a service provider for public and private operators. The "Products and Services" section details these offerings—including various studies, technical expertise, geotechnical audits, training, and seminars—as well as our major achievements in each field.
Furthermore, the "Laboratories" section showcases our impressive facility located in SEBALA (EL ACHOUR). Equipped with a 6m×6m earthquake simulation shaking table—the largest in the African and Arab world—along with a 32m×13m testing floor and a 15m×13m reaction wall, CGS is capable of performing full-scale and reduced-model tests for public institutions and third parties. These tests are essential for assessing structural vulnerability. For instance, structural components of the Great Mosque of Algiers (Djamaa El Djazaïr) as well as the stands for the 5 July Stadium and the Tizi Ouzou Stadium were tested within CGS laboratories.
To ensure a direct relationship with the public, we have included an "Online Services - Downloads" section. Here, users can order research reports, register for seminars, or download accelerometric recordings captured by the national network managed by the CGS.
This website is still evolving. We count on your contribution to its improvement through your comments, feedback, and suggestions. The "Contact" section is available to help you reach us.
Thank you, and enjoy your visit!
